Valley of the Damned is the debut studio album by British ability metal band DragonForce. It was then re-recorded in late 2002 and released as a full-length studio album on 25 Feb 2003, following the band'due south obtainance of the deal with Dissonance and change in name to DragonForce. The anthology was set to be remastered and released with a bonus DVD on 24 September 2007,[1] but was afterward delayed and eventually released on 22 February 2010, along with the re-release of the band'south 2d album, Sonic Firestorm.

AllMusic [2]

The Allmusic review by James Christopher Monger awarded the album four stars stating "The debut anthology from U.K. ability metal giants Dragonforce is a polarizing affair. Valley of the Damned could be construed as a bloated, Spinal Tap-style tribute to early-'80s fantasy-metal, and in many ways it is; yet, it's so well played and then joyously executed that it could very well reignite the entire genre... From the epic championship rail to the fist-pumping closer, "Heart of a Dragon," the guitar pyrotechnics of Herman Li and Sam Totman lite upwardly the sky like a third world state of war, bending riffs into melodic submission while never overplaying. Vocalist ZP Theart has no qualms nearly emulating heroes similar Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) and Michael Kiske (Helloween), simply his lupine howls have a grapheme all their ain... Valley of the Damned may non exist groundbreaking or cathartic, and lyrics similar "In the country of desire with your middle filled with burn you live for the correct to be free/Nosotros volition canvas on forevermore to the state of the evening star" may cantankerous the line into heavy metal parody, merely it's undeniably entertaining, expertly played, and endlessly fun."[2]

In 2019, Metal Hammer ranked it as the 10th best power metal album of all time.[iii]

When asked about his thoughts of the album in a 2015 interview, Herman Li said:[4]

Maybe 10 years ago, I would've said; 'I wish nosotros'd done this and that.', but these days not really. I've learned and experienced a lot in life and you lot sympathise that if you lot get the perfect album the beginning time, in that location'southward no way to go. It's all about learning and experiencing and you ever build on what you lot did before and learn from information technology and make improve albums. I call back it was the best we could come up with back then. Information technology's got that free energy, that we wouldn't be able to create if we re-recorded those songs. It wouldn't exist the same.
